This is a standard review example. In the first paragraph, I let you know I am reviewing SHOW TITLE. I also mention who is writing this – Jenni Nikinmaa – and tell everyone that I enjoy work that is weird, difficult and multilayered, with minimal sets, enchanting storytelling and out of the box forms.
In the second paragraph, I tell you what the show told us prior to my visit. They are trying to make a play that makes everyone bewildered and gets a sneeze from Johnny in the first row.
This is where the actual review begins. I assess how the play met its aims, and why I think that. They got a sneeze off Johnny in the first row, which is a peculiar aim but the show achieved it with grace: There is a planted audience member named Johnny who sneezes whenever someone says Seagull.
The feeling of bewilderment left something to be desired of. At times, the show surprises with unusual theatrical elements, but in the end, it is just another attempt to direct Hamlet differently. With such a well known story, the bewilderment is not achieved.
I really loved watching this, and would recommend it to anyone who likes Hamlet and new forms of theatre.
